Functional Integration®

Functional Integration (FI) is a one-on-one Feldenkrais session with a Guild-Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (GCFP). The client/student is taught how to move more efficiently to reduce strain, prevent injury, and improve quality of life. For instance, a person with an injured knee may be asked to lie on a table while the bones are gently mobilized in the leg and pelvis and spine in a unique way so as to connect to the person’s self-organization, then given further instruction for how to walk efficiently.

Students often leave a session feeling a lighter quality in their gait, a more solid base of support, and improved posture. This can be achieved in just one session, with follow-up sessions improving the quality of movement even further as the brain continues to learn. Everyone has a unique nervous system, so for others it may take more than one session. The movements are learned both subconsciously and consciously, with the brain storing movements in the premotor cortex and the student using conscious awareness as they move forward.
